The
CRSSA Barnegat Bay web site was initially created in 1999 to provide
CRSSA project information. In 2004, the web site continues to be an information resource for various
audiences of researchers, coastal zone managers, educators and the
general public interested in learning more about the Bay region.
All text, topics and graphics found on this
site are a result of CRSSA's research and project activities in the
Bay region. Ground photography source is also CRSSA unless otherwise
noted. Please read and abide any web site disclaimers and terms of
use when encountered.

Research Focus: Habitat Loss and Alteration
| |
A
result of CRSSA's contribution to the multi-group collaborative
effort, 'Data Synthesis Project for the Barnegat Bay Estuary
Program', from which a comprehensive management plan was published
by the Estuary Program.
The habitat loss and alteration component is an essential overview
of the recent status of the Bay as well as a definitive summary
of CRSSA's on-going research focus in the region. In addition
to summary text, the web site also features CRSSA maps. |
Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV) Mapping
| |
CRSSA,
along with other researchers in Rutgers University Marine and
Coastal Sciences (Renee Styles and Sybil Seitzinger), studied
the distribution of submerged aquatic vegetation in Barnegat
Bay. This work is published in the December 2001 issue of Estuaries,
Use of GIS Mapping and Modeling Approaches to Examine the
Spatial Distribution of Seagrasses in Barnegat Bay, New Jersey.
From this study, CRSSA has created this web site to provide
researchers, coastal managers, educators and the general public
with a background and graphical presentations of SAV in the
Bay. This project has evolved into a long-term effort with partners
including the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to provide
information regarding SAV distribution for local planning purposes. |

From
research and project work comes graphical presentations in the
form of maps whether they are static, animated or interactive.
Gallery is a gateway to CRSSA maps and habitat tours. Due to
the complexity of the graphic and your internet connection speed,
download time may vary. We hope it is worth the wait. Enjoy. |
