Abstract:
The Pumpout Stations point coverage was created for use in the Boater's Guide to
Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor.  It is an amalgam of two previously created
coverages, "JANCOVER" and "PUMP98" that were editted and combined to comprise
"BBAYPUMP". "JANCOVER" was created from GPS point data collected by Jan
Larson of Rutgers University Cooperative Extension of Ocean County in the Spring of
1999. This data was then diffentially corrected at CRSSA by Andrew Hendrickson and
exported for use in a GIS. "PUMP98" is a NJDEP created coverage of all pumpout
stations in New Jersey. Both of the contributing coverages were subsequently editted
for accuracy through a process of ground-truthing and digital orthophotagraphy
comparison, resulting in the addition, deletion, and movement of many of the point
locations.
Purpose:
Siting pumpout stations in Barnegat Bay and Little Egg Harbor was one of the main
objectives of the Boater's Guide. The need to update the existing coverages was justified by
the inaccurate siting of pumpouts in the NJDEP's "PUMP98" coverage and the
oversights of Jan Larson's fieldwork.
