Title: Precipitation for June (inches)
Type of Map: raster Number of Categories: 70
Rows: 2250
Columns: 4500
Total Cells: 10125000
Data Source:
IIASA GRID-Geneva
Comments:
The IIASA mean monthly precipitation data set consists of
nearly 6100 records of data (Leemans and Cramer,1990). Major
global patterns are clearly seen. The authors attempted to
to apply a height correction based on an adiabatic lapse
rate, unfortunately, this gave unsatisfactory results and
was not implemented in this data.
Values are in term of inches to make it easier to understand.
For some months; four-digit integers were used to express the
required amounts.
The GRID version of this data used is in two-byte (16-bit)
image format to accommodate the values about 255. We decided
to use as much of the data as possible since GRASS can
handle values over 255.
There was a slight problem when we downloaded the data from
1/2" tape--please see the history file for this month where
the values are in term of mm.
To convert the data values from mm to inches, r.mapcalc was
used; see above for expression.
